Responsible for serving and protecting the university by assisting law enforcement in reporting crimes and suspicious activity, maintaining visibility of security presence to deter crime, assisting faculty, staff and students as needed, and enforcing all parking regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Patrol designated areas to prevent, discover and deter crime.
  • Report matters requiring police action to communications or officers directly.
  • Report all irregularities, emergencies or suspicious activity.
  • Provide detailed written reports on witnessed criminal activity.
  • Issue parking citations, direct traffic flow and assist with parking vehicles.
  • Apply vehicle immobilization devices per parking procedures.
  • Assist motorists with their vehicles as directed.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds for fires, water leaks, and general security.
  • Unlock or lock buildings as required by university schedules.
  • Provide information and services to visitors, students and faculty.
  • Work special events as required or scheduled by supervisor.
  • Contribute to effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
  • Maintain a professional image on and off duty, including prudent use of social media and sober conduct.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain operations and services.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, procedures and laws.
  • Computer keyboard proficiency.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Effective verbal communication by radio.
  • Ability to handle individuals and critical situations effectively.
  • Logical decision?making based on facts to safeguard the university.
  • Planning, organization and coordination of unsupervised work tasks.
  • Valid drivers license with good driving record.
  • Physical ability to walk several campus distances, climb stairs, lift and use immobilization devices up to 25 lbs.
  • Uniform wear required (provided).

Applicant Requirements

Must be able to work any shift or time assigned by the Texas A&M?Commerce Police Department.

Criminal History Disqualifiers
  • Felony convictions or deferred adjudications.
  • Class A misdemeanor convictions or deferred adjudications.
  • Family violence convictions.
  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (felony or misdemeanor) disqualifies until disposition.
  • Class B misdemeanor convictions 10 years. Class B misdemeanor deferred adjudications 10 years.
