Coordinator of Secondary English Language Arts

Description:

The Coordinator of Secondary English Language Arts (ELA) is supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district and the attainment of the district and campus performance objectives. Coordinates and administers strong instructional programs which enable all children to develop their capabilities to the fullest. Continually develops, implements and refines all components that facilitate maximum opportunities for the students of Allen Independent School District. Develops and maintains positive staff morale with Allen ISD campuses and departments. Cooperatively develops long- and short-range objectives and goals for the district's department of Learner Services. Assists with the planning and conducting of needs assessments related to the English Language Arts operation of the district. Conducts conferences and develops training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation of the subject area of English Language Arts.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree in a related area such English Language Arts, Curriculum & Instruction, or Education Administration (preferred)
  • Educational Administrator Mid-Management Certification (preferred)
  • T-TESS Certification (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Knowledge of and ability to design and implement professional learning
  • Knowledge of instructional technology
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience as a teacher and established reputation as an educational leader

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Coordinates, directs, evaluates, and works to improve District curriculum, programs, and professional learning.
  • Provides recommendations designed for continuous curriculum improvements and development for grades 7-12.
  • Develops instructional goals, policies and programs for the various levels and instructional areas.
  • Coordinates the planning, development and implementation of proposed district instructional needs and TEA mandated programs.
  • Coordinates programs between campuses to ensure a coordinated and consistent grades 7-12 continuum.
  • Prepares reports, materials and data to provide the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Learner Services, the Superintendent and the Board with information relative to instructional programs.
  • Ensures current trends in district technology are integrated into grades 7-12 curriculum through professional learning.
  • Compiles, analyzes, reports and develops strategies for improvement in all areas of grades 7-12 curriculum.
  • Provides leadership opportunities and development training for principals for the improvement of instructional programs.
  • Conducts meetings and conferences with administrators and teachers etc. to plan, evaluate, and develop instructional improvements and professional learning.
  • Provides support to campus administrators in the area of general supervision of classroom procedures and techniques provides direction in solving curriculum-related and professional learning concerns.
  • Visits classrooms and conferences with teachers as necessary to diagnose areas of concern and plan for improvement of instruction.
  • Coordinates professional development and professional growth for all teachers and administrators.
  • Participates in educational meetings and professional conferences relative to assigned responsibilities.
  • Fosters good public relations and communications.
  • Applies the finding of research and district studies to improve the content, sequence, and the outcomes of the teaching and learning process.
  • Utilizes knowledge of curriculum content and the curriculum development process to facilitate teacher development of appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Works cooperatively with others in developing the mission and articulating a vision for the school and district program.
  • Ensures that goals and objectives are developed with involvement of specialists, teachers, parents, and/or students, when appropriate.
  • Systematically monitors school improvement activities or program activities.
  • Uses evaluative findings to determine the extent to which goals and objectives are met.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of students' achievement data in interpreting, reporting, and acting on results.
  • Actively supports the efforts of others to achieve District goals and objectives and the attainment of the District and campus performance objectives.
  • Offers constructive suggestions to ensure that policies and regulations support the teaching and learning process.
  • Ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Supports district and campus rules for conduct.
  • Participation in professional development program leads to improved job performance.
  • Actively seeks and utilizes evaluative feedback from peers and subordinates regarding his/her performance.
  • Develops, uses and evaluates ideas and/or innovative approaches to improve his/her performance.
  • Participates in professional organization, disseminates ideas and information to other professionals, and provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities, as well as solving problems facing the profession.
  • Performs duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of ethics for education.
  • Communicates district curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals, and new direction to parents and community; solicits their input on these instructional issues as applicable.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of the district as it is communicated to the public.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the assistant superintendent or superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel and clerical staff in the Learner Services Department.

  • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.
  • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.
  • Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel

Salary:
Pay Grade PG04, $397.14 - $468.90 daily rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
