Description:

To evaluate students for Special Education eligibilities and collaborate with other evaluators and campus staff to develop a plan of support.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's Degree
  • Certification as a Diagnostician in the state of Texas

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • None.

Experience:
  • Three years' experience in Special Education
  • Such alternatives to the above as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Evaluates students referred to special education.
  • Uses effective evaluation practices and completes written education assessment reports in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinates with other special education evaluators and interprets evaluation results.
  • Assists campus Student Intervention Team to review information to help determine if a student needs to be evaluated for special education services.
  • Assists Student Intervention Team to develop appropriate interventions to allow students to benefit from regular classroom instruction to the greatest extent possible.
  • Coordinates with members of the ARD committee to monitor student progress and ensure that IEPs are appropriate.
  • Works in coordination with the ARD committee, revises IEP's when needed.
  • Works in coordination with other staff to assure accurate reporting of student accounting procedures that align with state and federal guidelines.
  • Maintains compliance with required timelines for evaluation reports and ARD committee meetings.
  • Provides training to campus staff on assessment and ARD procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.
  • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.
  • Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress

Salary:
Pay Grade PG02, $345.27 - $409.14 daily rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
